Wan Zai Seafood, Zhu Hai

~ Wednesday, March 18, 2009

After we place our luggage in our hotel room, around 8pm, off we go for dinner.

There's this street in Zhu Hai which is famous for seafood, called Wan Zai. Double confirmed with the hotel reception and they arrange a cab for us.

While in the cab, we realized something is not right, the taxi driver might be taking the wrong way but we did not ask the driver since we don't know the roads until when the cab meter fare starts to charge for every 100m (since we the initial cab fare is for the first 2km i think), the driver asked us whether we want to go the Wan Zai which sells computer or the seafood street, then he turned back...sigh...the taxi fare should be around RMB 15 but we were charged at RMB 34.

Back to the seafood street, hehe, the whole streets are full with stalls selling fresh seafood and behind them are those restaurant. Pick those seafood you want from any stall and choose a restaurant. There are so many types of seafood eg. elephant trunk clam, abalone...Walk till the end of the street and you will see few stalls selling oysters...lots and lots of oyster. We bought around 8 big oyster for RMB 22, 3 scallop (shown in photo) for RMB 10 and 1/2 jin (about 300g?) squid for RMB 15.

Those restaurant will recommend you how to cook your seafood. Each priced differently. We had "salt and pepper soup" style for our oyster, forgot the scallop one, then fried squid. We ordered another dish of vege. They just have one size for the vege- which is big. lolx. It comes with soup and chinese tea. Total bill was RMB 63.
